Perth Arena turns 5

10/11/17

Since Sir Elton John opened Perth Arena in 2012, the venue has hosted many of the world’s greatest performers and sporting stars.

In its birthday month the venue will be at its busiest yet, hosting 23 shows in 30 days.

Perth Arena is no stranger to records though. Since opening, Perth Arena has hosted more sport and entertainment events than any other venue in Australia.

It was the only Australian venue to host multiple Rolling Stones concerts in 2014 and Prince played the only indoor arena show of his ‘Piano and a Microphone’ tour two years later.

Attendance for the venue’s premier sporting event, the Hopman Cup, breaks attendance records each year, with fans cheering on tennis superstars such as Roger Federer, Serena Williams and Andy Murray.

It’s not just on-stage performances where the venue excels. It continues to outperform the population, again achieving top place for Australian Arena sales in 2017. These sales currently place the venue fifth in the world for arenas of its size.

Perth Arena was recently named WA’s Venue Caterer of the Year at the 2017 WA Restaurant and Catering Awards for the second consecutive year and General Manager Michael Scott was recently named in the top 20 arena power players in the world by Billboard. This latest recognition is notable with Perth based Michael Scott being recognised as an arena manager who lifts the standard in safety and experience through leadership in one of the global top-grossing venues.

Giving back is central to Perth Arena’s ethos, with its charitable initiatives doing much to support the WA community. Their Golden Ticket campaign has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars over the year, enabling deserving groups such as Radio Lollipop and Breast Cancer Care WA to further their support of the local community.

“Perth Arena is recognised by promoters, artists and sporting teams as one of the greatest entertainment venues in the world," said Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray.

“The people of Perth have embraced this amazing venue, as seen by its place as Australia’s top selling arena,”

“Perth Arena has performed beyond expectations in its first five years, attracting Western Australians and visitors to Perth for world class events. I look forward to what the next five years will bring," Mr. Murray said.
