AEG Venues Celebrate Earth Month

19/05/2016

During April, AEG affiliated venues and teams celebrated Earth Month by raising environmental awareness and giving back to their communities.

Perth Arena which is owned by VenuesWest on behalf of the WA Government and managed by AEG Ogden, was one of 72 AEG venues worldwide to take part.

AEG Ogden is a joint venture between Australian venue management interests and AEG Facilities who operate AEG 1EARTH, AEG’s industry-leading corporate sustainability program which aims to reduce the organisation’s environmental impact and drive business value through sustainability.

During Earth Month, AEG venues and teams worldwide came up with a wide range of events and messages to get employees, guests and community members engaged in helping the environment.

Activities included taking part in the Earth Day Run, encouraging event patrons to carpool to their event, hosting donation drives, caring for trees in local parks, recycling drives, water conservation education and hosting a carbon neutral day.

“We were thrilled to have 100% participation from AEG’s owned and managed venues,” said John Marler, AEG’s Senior Director, Energy and Environment.

“It’s a testament to how far we’ve come in integrating sustainability into our company culture.”

In Western Australia, Perth Arena invited WA’s Water Corporation to promote water conservation to guests attending the Ice Age Live! A Mammoth Adventure shows from April 22-24.

Other Australian AEG Ogden venues who took part in Earth Month included the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Center, who educated staff about water conservation by hosting workshops and visiting with local nonprofit Tangalooma Ecomarines; and Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, which hosted an employee volunteer event to clean up sections of Sydney Olympic Park.

In addition to these events, many more AEG venues worldwide spread the message of sustainability during Earth Month on social media and at events.

Beyond celebrating Earth Month, AEG also supports other community-based environmental initiatives throughout the year. Later this year, AEG will release its fifth AEG 1EARTH Environmental Sustainability Report, which will provide an update on AEG’s environmental performance and share stories of AEG’s involvement in Earth Month and other environmental events worldwide.
